The call to missions is an exception, not the rule. The call is corporate, for all of us, and we simply need to be obedient to God’s call to reach the nations! You can decide to ‘go’ - God would accept your effort!

In this last installment of the missions series, "The Missing Half," we focus on the four ways we can become people of God whose lives don't have a "missing half." Jason outlines the four ways we can prayerfully involve ourselves in God's heart for reaching the world through becoming a sender, a welcomer, a mobilizer, and/or a "go-er." We learn the how and why of each of these four action steps and come to understand that all believers should be involved in at least one of these on a daily basis.

In this 3rd part of our series on missions, The Missing Half, we continue to look at the scriptural case for the high priority of Missions in God's plan for each of us and the fact that we often only focus on the half of scripture that has personal application. We've been learning that God's invitation to the kingdom is not just for us and those we deem worthy, but for the nations and any and every individual. This week we focus on the fact that "missions" is an essential part of every Christian's calling, not just those who have the vocation of missionary. Starting with the two loaves and fishes stories in the gospel, we are presented with more evidence that Jesus' outreach wasn't to his people-group alone, but also to the gentiles. In the same way, his final charge to the disciples (and thus to us!) was to be witnesses to their community AND to "the ends of the earth," thereby emphasizing the collective, not just individual, nature of the their calling.

God's Love for Internationals

After establishing last week that we need to read the Bible with more than just a focus on our own blessing or enrichment, we turn to what the second half of our focus should be: on being a blessing to the nations. We discuss how often the ancient Israelites focused on the fact that they were God's chosen people and forgot that he had chosen them to bear his name to be a witness and to bring enlightenment to the people around them. Jason highlights passages in the scriptures that evidence God's heart for internationals and his concern and care that they be included in His kingdom. In turn, we apply these passages to our own lives and the communities where we have been placed, considering who we might have overlooked unconsciously viewed as unworthy of the kingdom.

When we study the Bible, we are often taught, either by our culture or even our teachers, to view the scriptures exclusively through the lens of our personal experience, especially when reading about promises or blessings God spoke to his people. In this teaching, Jason walks us through the scriptures, both Old and New Testament, to help us learn the bigger picture behind most of these popular verses. We realize that, although we are an important part of God's story and his scriptures speak life into our personal lives, we can't see ourselves as the only story or read scripture applied to our own personal life situations alone--to do so leaves out half of the story!
